Meet Yasmin Bastouil Australian Teacher, Mum and Children's Book Author
Hi, I’m Yasmin - a South Australian junior primary school teacher, mum of two boys, and the author behind The Playground Diaries. I've spent almost two decades working with young children, watching firsthand how big their feelings can be and how powerful stories are in helping them make sense of the world.
I started writing children's books because I wanted to give families the same tools I use in my classroom and at home - stories that spark conversations, build resilience, and help kids feel truly seen. My books are inspired by real questions, real moments and the everyday chaos and magic of raising little humans.
You'll find themes of empathy, emotional literacy, connection and curiosity woven through everything I create, because I believe these are the foundations of raising confident, kind kids. My titles, including A superpower called empathy, We're getting a new baby, and recent SLVR Children's Book Award Winner Who likes the zoo? are all proudly made and printed here in Australia.
When I'm not writing or teaching, I'm usually at a playground hanging out with my boys, researching child development or sharing behind the scenes snippets of our beautifully chaotic life with my online community.
